Business letters, 1734-1738.

The majority of these letters were written by Philip Livingston. All letters are addressed to the London merchants Samuel Storke and Thomas Gainsborough. These letters discuss merchandise, prices, marketing options, transportation arrangements, and transmit financial accounts. The political events of the time, particularly those leading to the French and Indian War, 1755 to 1763, were mentioned in connection with their affects upon trade. Much trading occurred in Jamaica, to which there are numerous references, and where Peter Van Brugh Livingston spent some time conducting that facet of the family's business. The correspondence of Robert and Peter Van Brugh Livingston generally relates to business transactions from New York City.
